6 New Ferrara Rollouts

The Ferrara Candy Co. unveiled a wide selection of new products across its portfolio of brands during NACS’ Crack the Code Experience, a virtual event created after the annual NACS Show was cancelled by the pandemic.

Featuring brands such as Nerds, Laffy Taffy, Trolli, Brach’s and SweeTarts, as well as the recently acquired Keebler cookie business, Ferrara offers a portfolio of nearly 35 brands.

“We are igniting the growth engine across our Ferrara portfolio with significant, meaningful investments in our brands and business,” said Greg Guidotti, general manager of the sugar confectionery portfolio at Ferrara, Chicago.

Trolli Crunchy Crawlers

Trolli Crunchy Crawlers

Trolli Crunchy Crawlers has fueled significant brand growth, delivering nearly 10% sales growth year to date in 2020, according to Ferrara. To build on the success of this product line, Trolli introduced a new flavor in Berry Lemonade to provide a sweet and sour twist. The line extension will launch nationwide in April 2021 in three sizes.

SweeTarts Ropes Collisions

SweeTarts Ropes Collisions

SweeTarts is experiencing strong growth at 11-plus percent, the supplier says. SweeTarts Soft & Chewy Ropes remain the brand’s best-selling candy, with dollars growing 5.1 times faster than the category, according to supplier data. Building on the Ropes format, SweeTarts is releasing Ropes Collisions, a dual-flavored Rope in Watermelon Berry flavors. The new variation provides a fruit punch-flavored center wrapped in a dual-flavored berry and watermelon exterior for a fruity fusion. The product rolled out nationwide in December in four size formats.

SweeTarts Original Theater Box

Building on the marketing proposition “Be Both,” SweeTarts Original is infusing this mantra onto a new Theater Box product. The packaging offers a dual-sided, embossed message with “Be Both” inspired words. Each candy features seemingly contradictory words on each side of the candy, such as “shy” and “wise,” to encourage consumers to celebrate what makes them “both.” The new package launched nationwide in December in two formats.

Laffy Taffy Laff Bites Gone Bananas

With 80% brand awareness, Laffy Taffy is growing 3.5 times faster than the category, up 4.6% year to date, according to Ferrara data. New Laff Bites Gone Bananas allow consumers to enjoy the chewy taffy texture in a poppable candy bite. The new treats rolled out in December in three formats.

Nerds Gummy Clusters

Nerds Gummy Clusters

Nerds are growing at 18 times the category with 58.1% year-over-year sales growth, according to the supplier’s industry data. To fuel brand growth, Nerds recently launched Gummy Clusters. Each piece offers a cluster of crunchy, tangy, mini-rainbow Nerds with a fruity gummy center. The candies are available now in three package sizes.

Keebler Fudge Stripes and Chips Deluxe

Keebler Fudge Stripes and Chips Deluxe

Keebler, which Ferrara acquired in 2019, is rolling out new on-the-go formats with king size packs of its best-selling cookies, playing off the popular king size offering in candy. Available in 6- and 10-count packs, varieties include Keebler Fudge Stripes and Chips Deluxe. Available in January 2021.
