9 New Fruit Candy Launches

chewy fruit candies

Nonchocolate confections registered 4.4% dollar growth in convenience stores and 9.9% growth in grocery in 2020, according to data from Chicago-based IRI.

The bulk of that growth came in chewy and fruity candies, and often in bulk package sizes.

“The peg [bag] segment was a bright spot for us, particularly nonchocolates,” says Tim Young, category manager, center store for Newcomb Oil’s FiveStar c-store chain. At the Bardstown, Ky.-based chain of 80 stores, nonchocolate brands such as Haribo, Hi-Chew and Jolly Rancher came up big, while FiveStar also saw success merchandising 2-pound bags of Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids brands.
