The AWMA Expo Product Roundup, Part 1
A slideshow of new products and ideas from the 2014 Expo
LAS VEGAS -- Convenience distributors, retailers, brokers, manufacturers and suppliers met in Las Vegas last week for the annual AWMA Marketplace & Solutions Expo.
Along with education opportunities—such as Kit Dietz’s Harmonizing Assortment Conference and the AWMA Women’s Leadership Initiative breakfast, which welcomed sociologist and lead researcher on the book “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead,” Marianne Cooper—attendees strolled the expo floor, looking for the next big thing.
Convenience Store Products was there, tracking new products and seeking fresh ideas to draw traffic and sales into the c-store. Among the trends: bold flavors, products to improve one's well-being and--no surprise--a bounty of vaping devices.
Following are nine great finds we captured on the show floor. For eight more, stay tuned to Thursday’s issue of the Convenience Store Products e-newsletter.
Called the “O’Douls of tobacco” by one attendee, Smokey Mountain (www.smokeysnuff.com) is a tobacco-free smokeless herbal brand available as loose snuff or in pouches and in a variety of flavors.
Doing its part to expand the shot category beyond energy, Viva Zen (www.vivazen.com) alleviates muscle pain through a mix of herbal extracts. Zend meanwhile helps with stress relief, according to the company.
Leading the growing “craft snacks” trend, Jack Link’s (www.jacklinks.com) is focusing on its new Small Batch line, available in Original, Teriyaki and Peppered varieties.
Mrs. Freshley’s (www.mrsfreshleys.com) debuted a new line co-branded with The Hershey Co., including Peanut Butter Flavored Swiss Rolls made with Reese's Peanut Butter, and Double Chocolate Mini Donuts made with Hershey's Cocoa.
Keep the bundle in the foodservice family with fresh chips that operators can fry on-site from McCain Foods (www.mccain.com). The chips have a seven-day hold time, so they can be made during down times. Season based on regional preferences.
Hot on the heels of its Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups launch, Nestle USA (www.nestleusa.com) is rolling out Wonka Randoms gummy candy, featuring such a wide assortment of colors, flavors and textures that no two bags are the same.
Drew Estate’s (www.drewestate.com) Acid Cigars Blondie line differentiates itself with a small pouch inside the package that keeps the cigar fresh without the need for a humidor.
Crown Seven (www.crown7.com) featured its new zero-nicotine disposable e-hookah line, available in various flavors such as Appletini and Wild Blueberry, with 500 puffs per unit.
Turkey Hill (www.turkeyhill.com) showcased its line of ready-to-drink iced teas that are certified organic by the USDA. Flavors include sweet black tea, green tea, mint green tea and peach black tea.
