MSA’s data reveals a number of small trends that all point to one big conclusion: Customers shop convenience stores quite differently on the weekend. They treat it like a superette and increase their grocery-item purchases; they stock up on alcohol beverages; they ring up more general-merchandise products; and, above all, they increase daily check averages from $6.57 Monday through Thursday to $7.04 on Saturday and Sunday. “That was definitely one of the more interesting things that came out of this analysis,” MSA’s Don Burke says of the weekend dynamic.
