Dogs Gone: 7 Ways to Sell Sausages in C-Stores

Hot Dog

You’ve worked hard to cultivate both your refrigerated hot dog fare and roller-grill options, all with an emphasis on freshness, healthiness, innovation and quality. And now, even more reinforcements have landed in the hot dog and sausage camp.

Propelled by sporting events, healthy-eating trends and the popularity of chicken-based hot dogs and sausages, a growing number of consumers expect more out of your hot dog program, according to Albany, N.Y.-based Transparency Market Research (TMR).

Although pork has long led the hot dog pack, chicken is becoming the preferred protein option—all due to growing health awareness among consumers. It’s expected to increase demand for chicken hot dogs and sausages during the forecast period, according to the survey.

In terms of revenue, the opportunity in the global hot dogs and sausages market was pegged at $64.7 billion in 2014 and is estimated to be worth $80.4 billion by 2021—projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.1% from 2015 to 2021.

By volume, the market for hot dogs and sausages is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of 1.8% during the forecast period, according to TMR.

Following are some new hot dog and sausage varieties that might resonate with your customer base.
