7 CBD Launches Across Multiple Categories

The innovation pipeline for cannabidiol (CBD) products varies widely from convenience-store category to category. For gummies, for example, the growth appears to be on the bullish side.

Fact.MR, a market consultancy based in Dublin, Ireland, reports that the globally, the CBD gummy market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28% through the forecast period between 2019 and 2029.

Beverages infused with CBD, however, aren’t enjoying the same tailwind—not yet. The contribution from the beverage market is limited, in part because regulation is tighter on CBD drinks, according to Rick Maturo, associate director of client services for cannabis practice at New York-based Nielsen.

The cannabis-infused beverage universe accounts for between 1.5% and 3.0% of the greater cannabis market, but Maturo said the category has untapped potential. “We believe that beverages will ascend to being one of the predominant hemp-CBD formats, as they are slated to play a larger role in the legal marijuana space than they have previously.”

And there are new options coming to the retail market. In June, Ocean Spray Cranberries debuted a new line of CBD-infused sparkling waters called CarryOn. The Middleborough, Mass.-based agricultural coop of cranberry and grapefruit growers developed CarryOn within its Lighthouse Incubator division, which focuses on the acceleration of “accessible health and wellness-focused innovation.”

“We understood there was a gap in the market for a trustworthy CBD beverage that tastes good and also helps calm the mind without unwanted side effects,” said Josh Wiesman, codeveloper of Boston-based CarryOn. “So, we set out to solve that gap with the CarryOn brand.”

Asheville Hemp Project

Asheville Hemp Project (AHP) pre-rolls are made using farm-grown hemp flower that’s consistently rolled in unbleached hemp paper, and imported from France. Debuting in May, the entire stick, including a unique crutch (developed in-house to intentionally not filter out any cannabinoids) is biodegradable. The crutch provides a strong piece to hold while smoking, keeping flower material off the user’s lips, the company says. Each pre-roll contains 100 mg of CBD and is 84 millimeters long, the length of a standard cigarette. A pre-roll 10-pack is available for an SRP of $18.99.

Ocean Spray

Carry On CBD

Ocean Spray’s CBD-infused sparkling water CarryOn is available in two flavors: Elevate, aimed at keeping people “calm but sharp” through choline for focus and 10 mg of CBD; and Descend, designed for “relaxation with no impairment” with a combination of L-Theanine for relaxation and 20 mg of CBD. Both come in 11.5-ounce cans with 10 calories per serving and no added sugar.

Medterra Broad Spectrum Tinctures

Medterra Broad Spectrum Tinctures debuted in March, regarded as the most-potent broad-spectrum CBD offering on the market, according to the company. The tinctures incorporate additional components of the hemp plant while upholding the brand’s zero-THC guarantee. Medterra Broad Spectrum Tinctures offer strengths of 1,000 mg (SRP of $59.99) and 2,000 mg (SRP $99.99) in citrus, strawberry mint and unflavored flavors. Additional cannabinoids include CBG, CBC, CBN and CBDV.

 Marley CBD-infused chocolates

Launched in May across various retail locations, Marley CBD-infused chocolates from Docklight Brands contain high-quality ingredients to promote well-being, according to the company. The chocolate offering is made with 10 mg of CBD in four flavors: Sea Salt Dark (dark chocolate with pinch of sea salt), Jamaican Spice (nutmeg, cinnamon and cayenne), Candied Ginger (notes of ginger with dark chocolate) and Blue Mountain Coffee (dark chocolate infused with coffee sourced from Blue Mountain region of Jamaica). They are available for an SRP of $2.39 per single unit.

Marley Mellow Mood CBD-Infused teas

Docklight Brands also launched Marley Mellow Mood CBD-Infused ready-to-drink teas in April. The drinks feature decaffeinated black and green teas, chamomile, valerian root and passionflower, all intended to promote well-being. Each drink consists of a custom blend of herbs that’s infused with 25 mg of CBD. Three flavor profiles include Herbal Honey, Peach Raspberry and Lemon Raspberry, available for an SRP of $5.49 per 16-ounce can.

CBD Living Sparkling Water

CBD Living in April launched CBD Living Sparkling Water. Each 12-ounce slim-line can contains 25 mg of nano-CBD that’s sourced from organic U.S.-grown hemp, according to the company. The drinks are available in four flavors: Orange Grapefruit, Peach Honey, Strawberry Lavender and Apple Ginger. Each is vegan, gluten-free and certified Kosher and contains zero THC. CBD Living Sparkling Water is available in single cans, 12- and 24-packs and 4-can variety sample packs.

The company also rolled out a CBD Living Pet line that includes 20 products ranging from tinctures to gel caps, salves and shampoos. Designed specifically for pets, the offerings for dogs include hard treats and soft chews, tinctures, sprays and gel caps. Specifically, its CBD Living Calming Dog Tincture is available in three strength ranges from 150 mg to 1,000 mg. Cats can groom with nose and paw salve, hot-spot foam and tinctures. The CBD Living Calming Cat Tincture contains 150 mg of CBD. CBD Living Pet Water Booster, pet shampoo and pet conditioner are recommended for all pets, according to the company.
