5 New C-Store Products for Fitness Junkies

Healthy food and beverage products are ubiquitous as better-for-you eating rises on consumers’ to-do lists. Manufacturers are targeting health-crazed consumers with high-protein, low-fat products to provide a quality source of nutrition before and after a workout.

Here are a few getting the job done …

1. Optimum Nutrition

Aurora, Ill.-based sports food brand Optimum Nutrition launched two new grab-and-go protein products in June: Protein Almonds and Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Cake Bites.

The Protein Almonds are coated in whey protein with cocoa. They come in three flavors: Dark Chocolate Truffle, Cinnamon Roll and Chocolate Jalapeno, each of which contains 190 to 220 calories and 10 grams of protein.

Optimum’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Cake Bites contain 240 calories and 20 grams of protein per serving, which includes three cake bites. The cake bites are frosted and whipped, and come in six flavors in addition to Peanut Butter Chocolate: Birthday Cake, Red Velvet, Chocolate Dipped Cherry, Berry Cheesecake, Chocolate Mint and Chocolate Frosted Donut.

2. Clif Bar

Organic snack-bar company Clif Bar & Co. debuted three new products in June: Fruit Smoothie Filled Energy Bars, Energy Granola and Sweet & Salty Bars.

The Fruit Smoothie Filled Energy Bars come in three flavors: Strawberry Banana, Wild Blueberry Acai and Tart Cherry Berry. Each bar contains about 5 grams of protein, 230 calories and 2 grams of dietary fiber.

The Emeryville, Calif.-based company’s Energy Granola is gluten-free, whole-grain and made with organic oats, almonds, seeds and dried fruit. The granola comes in four flavors: Blueberry Crisp, Cinnamon Almond, Cocoa Almond and White Chocolate Macadamia Nut. One serving contains 8 grams of plant-based protein.

Clif’s Sweet & Salty bars come in three flavors: Chocolate Chunk With Sea Salt, Caramel Toffee With Sea Salt, and Peanut Butter and Honey With Sea Salt. Each bar contains 10 grams of protein, 260 calories and 4 grams of dietary fiber.

3. TruMoo Milk

Milk manufacturer TruMoo, a division of Dallas-based Dean Foods, debuted its low-fat, high-protein milk in a Cookies 'N Cream flavor earlier this year. Each 14-ounce bottle contains 25 grams of protein and 200 calories. The brand showcased the beverage at the Eby-Brown Midwest Expo in April. Other TruMoo milk flavors include Vanilla and Chocolate.

4. Peatos Cheese Snacks

Peatos are pea-based cheese snacks manufactured by Los Angeles-based World Peas Brand.

The snacks come in flavors such as Classic Cheese, Fiery Hot, Chili Cheese and Masala. One bag of the snack contains 390 calories, 12 grams of protein and 9 grams of dietary fiber.

The snack was named the 2018 Best Bite award winner for Best Salty Snack by Delicious Living Magazine.

5. Pistachio Chewy Bites

Terra Bella, Calif.-based pistachio manufacturer Setton Pistachio released the newest addition to its line of Setton Farms Pistachio Chewy Bites -- a Pistachio and Plum combination -- in June.

The snacks are bite-size bars made with California-grown pistachios, plums, date nectar and lemon. Each chew is individually wrapped and contains various amounts of fiber, iron, potassium and antioxidants. Every two bites have about 5 grams of protein.
