New Now at the Big Trade Show

Among the snacks and candy at this year’s NACS Show® will be products featuring a new ingredient—cannabidiol, or CBD.

This will be the first year products made with CBD, an active ingredient found in cannabis and hemp, will be shown at the conference, which began in 1961 as NACS annual meetings and later became the NACS Show in 1993.

While some convenience-store operators are on the fence regarding what role—if any—they want CBD to play in their businesses, others are ready to take advantage of one of the most sought-after ingredients in retail products.

To help guide operators, Alexandria, Va.-based NACS will hold two education sessions on CBD at the show, which takes place Oct. 1-4 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Of course, CBD products aren’t the show’s only draw. More than 1,200 companies will be exhibiting the latest and greatest in foodservice, general merchandise, packaged beverages, snacks, candy and more.

Attendees can use this guide to discover what new products are worth checking out at the show—and what to bring back to their c-store.

1. Tapatio Pickle-In-A-Pouch

Van Holten’s newest Pickle-in-a-Pouch variety features the flavor of Tapatio hot sauce. The single pickle comes in a tearable, stand-up pouch.

2. Hemptails

FIFCO USA is launching Hemptails, a flavored malt beverage made with hemp seeds. It will be displayed in its Hemptails lounge experience. The 8% ABV beverage has an herbal hemp aroma and flavor, the company says. The product will be sold in 23.5-ounce cans (SRP $2.99) and four-packs of 16-ounce cans in three flavors: Hemp’d, Citrus Gold and Passionfruit Express. FIFCO will also show Seagram’s Escapes Spiked, Labatt Blue Citra and Fun Wine.

3. Loacker

Promotion in Motion will show its Loacker products at this year’s NACS Show. The global wafer cookie and confection brand will have its Loacker Chocolate Bar on display. The 55-gram bar contains tablets with a layer of cream over a light, crispy wafer. It’s available in Milk Creme, Dark Creme, White Creme, Chocolate Creme, Napolitaner and Raspberry Yoghurt varieties for an SRP range of $1.50-$1.99.

4. Sour Patch Bites

The American Licorice Co. is launching a new look for its Sour Punch brand, as well as Sour Patch Bites in Cherry, Lime and Cola flavors. The soda-inspired variety will ship this fall. The bites are sold in 9-ounce stand-up bags for an SRP range of $2.99 to $3.49 and 5-ounce hanging bags for $1.39 to $1.69.

5. Kit Kat Duos Mint + Dark Chocolate

The Hershey Co. will debut Kit Kat Duos Mint + Dark Chocolate, which features wafers with a mint cream coating on the top and dark chocolate on the bottom. The product will be available nationwide in December and be offered in a standard 1.5-ounce bar (SRP 99 cents) and a 3-ounce king-size bar (SRP $1.69).

6. Dip’n Wedges Crispy Potato Scoops

McCain Foods’ Dip’n Wedges Crispy Potato Scoops are ridged, V-shaped snacks that can be eaten on their own or with a dip. The wedges are ideal as a grab-and-go snack, the company says.

7. Laff Bites

Ferrara Candy Co. is expanding its Laffy Taffy brand by introducing Laff Bites, which contain an extra drop of flavor at the center and come in Cherry, Strawberry, Green Apple and Blue Raspberry flavors. The packs will be available nationwide in December. A 4.2-ounce peg bag has an SRP of $1, and a 2-ounce share pouch has an SRP of $1.30.

8. Road-Tech Phone Accessory Display

McLane Co.’s new Road-Tech phone accessory display is a lightweight countertop display with merchandising graphics on the side. It has four rows and holds eight uniform-sized tray packs. The company will also show a counter display that can hold 20 of the top-selling health and beauty care products, as well as products from its private-label subsidiary, CVP.

9. NoDoz Vials

Lil’ Drug Store’s NoDoz Vials are energy tablets that contain 200 milligrams of caffeine—the same amount of caffeine in one cup of coffee, the company says. The product, which has 10 caplets per package, has an SRP of $2.99.

10. Maple Waffle Flatbread

Rich’s Foodservice will showcase its Maple Waffle Flatbread, a whole-grain waffle flatbread made with all-natural maple chips and maple flavor. The bread can be used for sandwiches or eaten on its own. Each 1.1-ounce flatbread contains 1 gram of fiber. One case contains 192 flatbreads, which have a frozen shelf life of 180 days.

11. Triple Chocolate Brownies

Hostess Brands’ new Triple Chocolate Brownies are made with real chocolate in the brownie, chocolate chips and frosting. Each brownie is made with no artificial flavors, colors or high fructose corn syrup. The treats come in boxes of eight individually wrapped brownies for an SRP of $1.99 and will be available in December.

12. Red Bull Summer Edition Watermelon

Red Bull North America is releasing a Red Bull Summer Edition Watermelon, a limited-time offer. It will be available in August 2020 at retailers nationwide in 8.4-ounce and 12-ounce sizes.

13. Chicken Tornados

Ruiz Foods is adding two new flavors to its Chicken Tornados line: Nacho Cheese & Chicken and Chicken Fajita. The first, which was released in September, contains nacho cheese, chicken and jalapenos in a crispy seasoned tortilla. The latter is made with chicken, red and green peppers, onions and fajita spices. It will be available in November.

14. Airheads Paradise Blends

Perfetti Van Melle’s new Airheads Paradise Blends come in mini bars (2.75-ounce packs and 12-ounce laydown bags), bites (2-ounce and 6-ounce bags) and gum (14-stick wallet pack). The bars and bites come in Raspberry Lemonade, Citrus Rush, Cherry Pineapple Blast, Blue Hawaiian and White Mystery flavors. The gum comes in Raspberry Lemonade flavor.

15. Pampers Changing Kits and Pampers Dry Diapers

Convenience Valet is showcasing Pampers Changing Kits and Pampers Dry Diapers. The resealable changing kits include two Pampers Baby Dry Diapers (in sizes 3, 4 or 5) and six Pampers Sensitive Wipes for an SRP of $3.99. Pampers Dry Diapers are small and convenient packs of diapers in sizes 3 (eight-count), 4 (seven-count) and 5 (six-count). The packs have a small footprint for easy merchandising, the company says, and have an SRP of $7.59.

16. Pillsbury Stuffed Waffles

General Mills’ Pillsbury Stuffed Waffles are now available in two flavors: sausage, egg and cheese; and bacon, egg and cheese. The frozen waffles are warmed in-house and packaged in grab-and-go containers. New packaging includes brown craft bags that show the product through a clear window. The waffles have an SRP of $3.19.

17. On

Altria’s On is an oral nicotine pouch that comes in seven flavors—mint, wintergreen, cinnamon, berry, citrus, coffee and original—and five nicotine strengths for a total of 35 SKUs. The product is currently available in limited distribution in thousands of U.S. retail outlets.

18. Twix Cookies & Creme

Mars Wrigley Confectionery is launching Twix Cookies & Creme in January. The product features milk chocolate-covered chocolate cookie bars with a soft cream center packed with crunchy cookie bits. It will be available in singles (1.41 ounces), a share size (2.87 ounces) and a stand-up pouch (8.7 ounces).

19. Coca-Cola Cinnamon

The Coca-Cola Co. is launching Coca-Cola Cinnamon for a limited time, from Sept. 30 through Dec. 31, or while supplies last. The drink will come in 12-ounce fridge packs, six-pack mini cans, 12-ounce PET bottles and 20-ounce PET bottles.

20. Peet’s Blended Coffee

Peet’s Blended Coffee from Peet’s Coffee, a Keurig Dr Pepper Brand, is made with Colombian coffee and real cream and sugar. The drink will be available in four flavors—Chocolate Truffle, Caramel Dulce, Vanilla Creme and Coffee & Cream—for an SRP range of $2.99 to $3.29. The line will launch in January 2020.
