15 Products That Hit Shelves in December


With so many products being released all the time, it can be hard to determine what to stock. At the end of every month, Convenience Store Products offers a rundown of the hottest snacks, candies, beverages and general merchandise that hit retailers over the past four weeks. This batch includes holiday cookies, chocolates, crispy cheese snacks, cannabidiol (CBD)-based products and more. 

Here’s what hit the market in December …

1. 7-Eleven Super Brookie

7-Eleven relaunched its Brookie, the combination of a brownie and cookie, in a “super” size for the holidays. The Irving, Texas-based chain also added M&M’s candies to the decadent treat.

2. Toxic Waste Nuclear Fusion Candies

Sour-candy manufacturer Candy Dynamics added a new lip-puckering product, Nuclear Fusion, to its line of Toxic Waste Hazardously Sour Candy in convenience stores nationwide.

Nuclear Fusion candies ride today’s two-in-one flavor trend, in which one piece of candy contains multiple flavors. The flavor combinations are Raspberry-Lemon, Orange-Apple, Banana-Blueberry, Grape-Strawberry and Pineapple-Passion Fruit. These sour candies arrive in various packages, including collectible fluorescent orange drums, foil hanging bags, bulk options, fishbowls and 72-count shipper floor displays.

3. Rice Krispies Snack Crackle Poppers

The Kellogg Co. expanded its line of Rice Krispies Treats with the launch of Rice Krispies Treats Snap Crackle Poppers, now available in convenience stores nationwide.

Rice Krispies Treats Snap Crackle Poppers are available in Chocolatey and Cookies ‘N’ Creme flavors, both of which arrive in 5-ounce stand-up resealable bags. They come shipped in a six-count. Like its predecessors, the varieties are made with crisp rice cereal held together with butter and marshmallow cream.

4. CBD Coconut Bites

Boulder, Colo.-based healthy snack brand Weller launched its first product line: CBD Coconut Bites, which are available in Dark Chocolate, Caramel and Original flavors. CBD Coconut Bites come in single-serve (five bites) and multiserve (20 bites) packages. Each individual bite contains 5 milligrams of CBD from full-spectrum hemp plants. Weller’s CBD Coconut Bites are available at various retailers nationwide and online.

5. M&M's Chocolate Bars

Mars Wrigley Confectionery unveiled its newest product, M&M’s Chocolate Bars, in retailers nationwide in December. The bars are available in Peanut, Milk Chocolate, Crispy, Almond and Crispy Mint flavors, all of which contain a milk chocolate exterior with whole M&M's Minis on the inside.

M&M’s Chocolate Bars were in development for several years, according to Mars Wrigley. The company tested nine flavors and four different formats before crafting the final recipe and shape to ensure each bar included its ideal ratio of chocolate to M&M’s.

6. Hershey Hot Cocoa Kisses

The Hershey Co. debuted its first holiday-flavored kisses since 2009 last month. Hershey’s Hot Cocoa Kisses combine marshmallow-flavored cream and classic milk chocolate. The Kisses come in 8-ounce and 10-ounce bags for a suggested retail price of $3.49 and $3.99, respectively. Hershey calls the treat “an ideal way to kick off ‘sweater weather’ and the holiday season.”

7. 7-Eleven Jerky in a Bag

7-Eleven debuted two limited-time-only jerky variations, Uncured Bacon Jerky in a Bag and Taco Beef Jerky in Bag, at various locations nationwide in December. The jerky is part of the Super Snack Time brand, a division of the YouTube cooking show "Epic Meal Time." Bags of both flavors are available for a suggested retail price of $6.99.

Uncured Bacon Jerky in a Bag comes in a Sweet Sriracha Style flavor. The jerky has a sweet and spicy profile with medium heat. It is mixed with sweet Sriracha, tamari soy sauce, honey and ginger and contains 16 grams of protein per serving. Its counterpart, Taco Beef Jerky in a Bag, comes in a Carne Asada Style flavor. Unlike Uncured Bacon, this low-heat jerky contains 20 grams of protein per serving. It is tossed in fresh cilantro and brown sugar, orange juice and lime juice for extra zest.

8. Reese’s Trees Stuffed With Pieces

The Hershey Co. launched Reese’s Trees Stuffed With Pieces, the fifth addition to its Reese’s Trees line, in December. This latest edition features tree-shaped chocolates stuffed with Reese’s Pieces. The festive product is available in an individual size as well as a six-pack for a suggested retail price of 99 cents and $3.99, respectively.

9. Cheez-It Snap'd

Kellogg’s debuted its Cheez-It-Snap’d snacks, a thinner, crispier version of the original cheese treat, last month. Available in Double Cheddar and Cheddar Sour Cream & Onion flavors in 2.2-ounce bags, Cheez-It Snap’d snacks contain real cheese and arrive in 36-count displays in stores nationwide.

10. Football Fantasy

Novelty candy producer R.M. Palmer introduced Football Fantasy, a 22-ounce hollow milk chocolate football, for the holidays. The edible football is available at major retailers nationwide for a suggested retail price of $11.99.

11. 7-Select Holiday Frosted Sugar Cookies

The convenience-store chain debuted 7-Select Holiday Frosted Sugar Cookies during the holidays, featuring Christmas and Hanukkah designs such as Santa Claus, reindeer, snowflakes and menorahs. These cookies are merchandised at the front counter near the cash register, the company said.

12. Starbucks Peppermint Mocha varieties

Starbucks released two beverages for retailers in December, available via PepsiCo: Peppermint Mocha and Peppermint Mocha Iced Espresso.

Peppermint Mocha is a ready-to-drink coffee beverage that combines espresso and milk with cherry, chocolate and peppermint flavors. The 14-ounce beverage comes wrapped in a festive, single-serve package and is available for a suggested retail price of $2.79.

Peppermint Mocha Iced Espresso highlights minty and chocolatey flavors. The brand’s espresso and milk merges with the cheery flavors of peppermint and chocolate—exactly like the original Peppermint Mocha—and is stronger in taste than its counterpart. The beverage is available in 40-ounce bottles for an SRP of $4.99.

13. Rold Gold Pretzel varieties

PepsiCo also revealed three new Rold Gold Pretzel varieties in December: Dipped Pretzels in Classic Dipped Tiny Twists and Peppermint Dipped Snowflake varieties, and Rold Gold Holiday Rings. The Dipped Pretzels are available in 8.5-ounce bags for a suggested retail price of $3.99, while the Holiday Rings are available in 15-ounce bags for an SRP of $3.99.

14. Flow Glow Water

Flow Alkaline Spring Water, a Canadian alkaline spring water brand, launched its line of Flow Glow beverages in North America in December. These beverages are infused with CBD and contain botanical and antioxidant ingredients.

Like the rest of the company’s products, Flow Glow is sourced from a family-owned spring in Ontario. The water comes from a limestone aquifer where it collects healthful, essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium.

15. Edamame Fusion Blends

Dried-fruit snack producer On the Go Fusion Snacks launched its newest product, Edamame Fusion Blends, in select markets nationwide in December. These snacks are made with slow-roasted edamame beans and come in three flavors: Edamame & Goji Berry Fusion, Edamame & Berries Fusion and Edamame & Tropical Fusion, all of which are gluten-free and non-GMO.
