Chewy nonchocolate candies

Led by such consumer need state fulfillment as berry flavors, chewy textures and shapes, nonchocolate chewy confection continues to dominate the candy market, with jellies, licorice and chew segments seeing steady growth.

Broadly, the nonchocolate candy category grew 21.3%, with units up 13.6%, for the 26-week period ending Oct. 3, 2021, according to data from Chicago-based IRI. Nonchocolate chewy candy, meanwhile, grew 20.2% with units up 12.6%.

Ferrara USA Fruit Stripe Gummy Candy

In October, Ferrara USA introduced Fruit Stripe Gummy Candy, building off the iconic Fruit Stripe Gum and available in three flavors swirled into a striped gummy candy. Flavors include Tangerine, Lemon and Cherry.

Simply Gum Inc. Fruit Gummies and Smoothie Bites

Simply Gum Inc., an Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) female-founded brand, debuted Fruit Gummies and Smoothie Bites. Fruit Gummies are soft and chewy, and formulated using real raspberries and peaches, with no refined sugar or artificial sweeteners added. The 100% vegan (no gelatin of animal products) and allergen-friendly variety is free of nuts, soy, gluten, corn, sesame and dairy. Smoothie Bites are crunchy and creamy bites with each freeze-dried chew made using bananas, strawberries and yogurt. Each bag contains 75 calories.

Haribo added to its growing portfolio of gummies with Rainbow Worms and Z!NG Sour Kicks. Rainbow Worms offer a five-color rainbow effect in fun worm shapes and available in three flavors: Black Currant, Lemon and Strawberry. Z!NG Sour Kicks offer the punch of Haribo Z!NG with an undusted sour experience. The sneaker-shaped gummies come in five sour flavors: Orange, Grape, Raspberry, Strawberry and Lemon. Both offerings are available in small, medium and large peg sizes.

In late Sept., Candyrific partnered with the Kraft Heinz Co. to launch (in spring 2022) Kool-Aid brand-themed character fans and character cases. Kool-Aid brand Character Fans resemble the iconic Kool-Aid Man character on top, providing a burst of fanned air when a button is pushed, along with 0.35 ounces of Kool-Aid gummies in Tropical Punch, Cherry and Grape flavors (SRP of $5.99). The Kool-Aid brand Character Case, meanwhile, is 4 inches tall, with 0.10 ounces of Kool-Aid Tropical Punch, Cherry or Grape-flavored popping candy (SRP $3.99).

Starburst Airs from Mars Inc. represent a next-generation aerated gummi candy from the Starburst brand. Different from typical gummis, Starburst Airs feature an inflated texture resulting in a bouncy gummi with all the flavors of the chewy candy brand.
