Five LTOs Fit for (Your) Stocking
’Tis the season to indulge! And that’s evident in the abundance of limited-time only (LTO) candy filling your convenience-store shelves.
Eighty-five percent of consumers plan to enjoy confection this holiday season, according to survey results from the National Confectioners Association (NCA). However, they are showing signs of restraint. Almost 80% of parents have moderation plans in place for candy consumption, the NCA found, and 90% of parents discuss or plan to talk with children about balance and moderation relative to candy consumption.
“As a father of four children, I can relate to parents across the country that embrace the unique role that candy plays in family celebrations and traditions, and using the holiday as an opportunity to teach their children about the importance of moderation,” said John Downs, NCA president and CEO.
The NCA anticipates confection sales will reach $1.6 billion for this seasonal period.
Looking at seasonal product preferences, 36% of consumers prefer to receive foil-wrapped chocolates as part of holiday gifts, with chocolate Santas, snowmen and coins among the most popular, respectively, the NCA reported. More than three-quarters of shoppers will include candy in Christmas stockings or gifts.
When it comes to candy canes, peppermint is tops for 75% of shoppers and more than half of all consumers will use the hard candy sticks to decorate trees and packages, according to the survey.
Peppermint is also a popular flavor in holiday confection as seen in Hershey’s Peppermint Bark Bells. Read more about this item and more—all of which would make perfect stocking stuffers—in the slideshow below.
