An apple a day—at least that’s what MillerCoors is hoping for. Its Redd’s Apple Ale is brewed like an ale but tastes like a cider. As with many prominent trends in the c-store sphere, millennials and their expanding palates are also behind this one. Consumers are demanding more flavorful, high-alcohol beverages, and three of the top 10 new c-store products, for all intents and purposes, fit that bill. “[Redd’s] is how we are defending ourselves against spirits,” said Jenna Shklyar, a MillerCoors brand manager, in a Fortune magazine article in 2014. “This is our way to gain back market share and for us to attract millennial consumers.”
