Nestle Waters North America has plans to drive significant growth across the sparkling-water category, applying its sparkling expertise from premium brands Perrier and S.Pellegrino to its regional spring-water brand portfolio.
This effort is demonstrated via the February rollout of a new and updated line of sparkling spring waters—complete with additional flavor types and packaging choices.
“Following rapid growth over the past few years, the sparkling-water category is now mature enough for us to make a significant investment in developing this extensive line of mainstream sparkling offerings from our regional spring-water brands, each of which is the top-selling still spring-water brand in its market,” Antonio Sciuto, executive vice president and CMO for Nestle Waters North America, said in a statement.
According to Euromonitor, the sparkling water category grew 70% from 2011-2016 and is expected to reach $3.1 billion by 2022.
It’s a good time to get ambitious with all segments of bottled water expansion—from sparkling to spring, protein and purified. The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) recently revealed that all subsegments of the bottled water category are eclipsing soft-drink sales volume.
In a Harris Poll of 3,300 American adults centered around consumers’ bottled-water tendencies, 63% said bottled water is among their “most preferred” beverage, edging out coffee at 62% and soft drinks at 58%.
