7 New Bottled-Water Launches

With can formats of sparkling and seltzer water trending north, the PET still-water segment of the bottled-water category is looking to shake out of a malaise.

The PET segment of bottled water is down 2.4% and 6.9% across dollar and unit sales, respectively, in convenience stores for the 52-week period ending July 12, 2020, according to data from Chicago-based IRI Worldwide.

The bottled-water category as a whole fared somewhat better, but was still off 1.8% for dollar sales (to $4.45 billion) and 6.2% for units.

In the PET-bottle segment, Glaceau Smart Water, Aquafina, Dasani, private label and Glaceau Vitamin Water led the pack. Of that top five, and perhaps indicative of a cost-cutting on the part of consumers during the pandemic, only private label water showed growth during the period, up 4% in dollar sales.
