8 New Tastes in RTD Cocktails

As cocktail culture maintains its place as an alternative to wine and beer, drink makers are increasingly bringing the trend to packaged beverages. Click through for a look at eight ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktail brands and flavors that have come to market over the past few months.

1. Round Barn Winery

Round Barn Winery

After 22 years of selling exclusively from its family of properties in southwest Michigan’s wine region, Baroda, Mich.-based Round Barn Winery has entered the retail channel with canned Red Sangria, Crantini, Cherry Spritzer and Peach Bellini products. The products, initially available only on the winery’s website, were inspired by versions sold by the glass or growler at the winery. The drinks are made with wine produced from grapes from the winery’s vineyards and natural fruit concentrates with no high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors or artificial flavors. The drink are initially rolling out to stores in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin.

2. 'Merican Mule

'Merican Mule

'Merican Mule, the creator of America's Moscow Mule in a can, has launched two new mule flavors: Tropical Style and Mexican Style. The Tropical Style Mule is made of rum, ginger and pineapple, and the Mexican Style Mule is made of tequila, ginger and lime. The drinks come in 12-ounce cans and contain 7% alcohol. The drink are currently distributed in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.

3. Rogue Spirits

Rogue Spirits

Craft distiller Rogue Spirits launched its first sparkling canned cocktail line in July. The 7.5% ABV, gluten-free cocktails are made with Rogue Spirits and 100% natural ingredients. The drinks are available in three flavors: Cucumber Lime Gin Fizz, Cranberry Elderflower Vodka Soda and Ginger Lime Vodka Mule. They’re packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce slim-line cans.

4. HardHops

HardHops

HardHops added a new flavor to its line of Hybrid Craft Cocktails this spring and has another slated for the fourth quarter. Frickin Prickly Pear was launched on Memorial Day, and Minter Wonderland is slated for the holiday season. With an ABV of 4.25%-8%, all seven flavors of HardHops Hybrid Craft Cocktails are low-calorie, low-carb and gluten-free. They’re packaged in four-packs of 12-ounce cans.

5. Koloa Rum

Koloa Rum

Koloa Rum Co., the first licensed commercial distillery on the island of Kaua’i, has launched three ready-to-drink cocktail blends: Hawaiian Pineapple Passion Rum Cocktail, Hawaiian Mai Tai and Hawaiian Rum Punch. All Koloa Rum RTD cocktails are made using juices and purees, never premixes or canned products, to deliver authentic, quality flavors, according to the company.

6. McClure’s Pickles

McClure’s Pickles

Citing the relationship to its primary product line, McClure’s Pickles has released McClure’s Pre-Mixed Bloody Mary Cocktail. The ready-to-drink cocktail highlights McClure’s signature Bloody Mary Mix paired with vodka and canned by Michigan’s Pigeon Hill Brewing Co. The cocktails is available at retailers wherever McClure’s gourmet pickled goods and condiments are sold. The drink is available in single-serve 12-ounce cans with 7.5% ABV.

7. Mighty Swell Spritzer

Mighty Swell Spritzer

Mighty Swell Spritzer Co., a low-calorie, low-sugar spiked beverage, has added Cherry Lime to its portfolio. The new flavor uses naturally derived ingredients to deliver the taste of juicy red cherries with a hint of zesty lime, according to the company. It’s the latest line extension in a series first introduced in 2016, which also includes Watermelon Mint, Grapefruit and Peach. The drinks are packaged in 12-ounce cans with 5% ABV, 110 calories and 4 grams of sugar.

8. Kinky Beverages

Kinky Beverages

Kinky Beverages has released a playful new addition to its colorful Kinky Cocktails lineup. Kinky Aloha Cocktail is infused with tropical flavors of pineapple, coconut and lime. With an ABV of 5%, Kinky Aloha Cocktails are available nationwide in six-packs of 11.2-ounce bottles for an SRP of $8.99.
