Adult drinking trends are evolving in the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic. More than 80% of consumers who drink cocktails said they have changed how and what they’re drinking after restrictions imposed by local branches of government, according to a new survey.
Bacardi’s 2020 Summer Cocktail Trends Survey collected opinions from 5,000 respondents in the United States, U.K., France and Germany.
Half of all respondents in France and Germany said they aimed to spend more time socializing and sipping drinks outside compared to 2019, followed by 43% of American respondents and 39% of those surveyed in the U.K.
Frozen cocktails continue to be a popular choice, particularly in the U.S. and France, with 42% of American and 35% of French respondents looking forward to enjoying frozen concoctions.
Bacardi also saw the “cocktail in a can” trend take off this summer. Popular already for their convenience and portability, close to 30% of respondents reported they plan to purchase ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktails or canned spirits and mixers for their socially distanced get-togethers.
Portability, cold retention and convenience were cited as key reasons for stocking up on a pre-made drink.
