6 Limited-Time Rollouts Adding Punch to Brand Lineups

Cobranded limited-time offers (LTOs) are becoming the go-to marketing strategy for several popular quick-service restaurants and packaged snack brands. Click through to view six spring and summer LTOs arriving at market that take advantage of their branding power.

1. KFC and Frito-Lay

KFC and Frito-Lay’s Cheetos have partnered to create a limited-edition Cheetos Sandwich, which is being promoted by Chester Cheetah as the new Colonel Sanders. The campaign is running across TV with an animated Colonel Chester, who will also take over KFC’s social channels. The effort can provide lift to the existing Cheetos portfolio, including new Cheetos White Cheddar Bites, which are poppable, light and airy snacks.

2. Dunkin’ and Hershey's

Hershey’s Heath, Kit Kat and Cookies ‘N’ Creme brands are featured in limited-time offerings at Dunkin’. Choices include the square Cookies ‘N’ Creme doughnut, as wells as Heath and Kit Kat Coolatta vanilla bean drinks. Not to be outdone on the leveraging of summertime LTO activation, Hershey’s offers consumers a quick and easy recipe for s’mores with the Hershey’s Sweet S’mores Snack Mix.

3. Kellogg’s and Sony Pictures

Kellogg’s announced a partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment to help fuel excitement over the summer release of “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” The collaboration between the two brands includes special-edition "Spider-Man"-themed products that contain a superhero twist, promotional packaging and a takeover of  Kellogg’s New York City Cafe, the Battle Creek, Mich.-based company said. Featured products participating in the partnership include Eggo Mixed Berry Marvel web-shaped waffles, Cheez-It, Keebler Amazing Vanilla Cupcake Fudge Stripe Cookies and Pop-Tarts Spidey Berry, which unlocks an interactive comic story when scanned.

4. Little Debbie

Little Debbie’s iconic Christmas Tree Cakes are coming exclusively to Walmart shelves for a limited time this summer, being renamed Christmas in July Christmas Tree Cakes. Individually wrapped and packed in boxes of five, the Christmas in July cakes are tree-shaped treats featuring sweet vanilla cake topped with white chocolate and decorated with red icing and crunchy green sprinkles. On the outside package, treats are embossed with a scene of an off-duty summer Santa eating a snack cake while drinking milk. On the back of the box is a “Greetings from Santa” postcard signed by Santa Claus himself, detailing his summer adventures with Mrs. Claus.

5. Mondelez and Post Consumer Brands

Post Consumer Brands and Mondelez teamed up on the release of LTO bags of Just Blue and Just Red Sour Patch Kids at 7-Eleven stores. A prelude to this campaign was a January 2019 program in which Post and Mondelez unveiled Sour Patch Kids cereal—originally at Walmart before national distribution in June.

6. Hunt Brothers Pizza

In March, Hunt Brothers Pizza added Steak & Cheddar Pizza as its latest limited-time pizza. It features the brand’s original crust topped with a creamy cheese sauce, a blend of 100% mozzarella and natural yellow cheddar cheeses, thinly sliced marinated steak and Hunt Brothers' signature Just Rite Spice. Operators need only unwrap the pizza, sprinkle the spice and bake. Options include a large 12-inch whole pizza or a "Hunk A Pizza" (one-quarter of a 12-inch pizza).
