6 New Snack-Bar Options

The snack-bar category has struggled in recent months, with dollar and unit sales in convenience stores down 14.3% and 17.2%, respectively, during the 52-week period ending Aug. 9, according to IRI, Chicago.

But suppliers such as Met Rx Nutrition, Kind LLC and One Brands proved to be outliers, posting positive dollar gains via new rollouts. Specifically, new releases such as One Nutritional, Met Rx Big 100 Colossal and Kind Protein bars resonated with consumers for a variety of reasons, such as emphasis on simple ingredients and high protein counts.

Such attributes will continue to drive the snack segment, according to a new report from Chicago-based Mintel International. “New functionalities will need to be explored to connect with health-minded individuals,” The Future of Snack Bars Market report states. “In addition, the sustainability issue will grow in importance and greater focus will be given to brand mission statements that inspire and unite consumers.”
