7 C-Store Products That Will Be Featured During Super Bowl LII

Super Bowl XLIX in 2015 became the highest-rated TV broadcast in U.S. history, having been seen by at least 114.4 million viewers across the United States, as reported by Nielsen. These games continue to be among the most viewed U.S. broadcasts, continually providing opportunities for brands to generate buzz around new products.

With this year’s big game approaching, here are some of the familiar convenience-store brands and products to look for during the commercial breaks.

1. Tostitos

Tostitos is offering personalized ads for everyone throwing a Super Bowl party this year. Here’s how it works: Hosts enter their name and their party’s location and start time on Tostino’s "Super Bowl Ads for All" digital page, which then creates a personalized Super Bowl party invitation. The minute-and-a-half video ad is emceed by actor Alfonso Ribeiro, cordially inviting viewers to the host’s fiesta.

2. New Age Beverage

New Age Beverages will provide an array of its beverages throughout this year’s Super Bowl weekend in Minneapolis. The Thornton, Colo.-based company is partnering with health and wellness company Celebrity Sweat to fundraise for Mission 22, a charity whose mission is to end military veteran suicide. While showcasing its beverages on the sidelines during the game, New Age will also air its first commercial live on ESPN.

3. Doritos

After taking last year’s big game off, Doritos is teaming up with Mountain Dew for the 2018 Super Bowl. The brands even released a teaser of their ad featuring actors Peter Dinklage and Morgan Freeman—with Freeman on the Mountain Dew Ice side and Dinklage on the Doritos Blaze side—ready to fight in a potential battle of the brands.

4. M&Ms

Mars Wrigley Confectionery announced in December that after a three-year hiatus from the Super Bowl, M&M’s will return with a 30-second commercial during the first quarter of this year’s big game.

5. Skittles

Skittles is creating a 60-second Super Bowl ad for one fan to watch during the game. While the 17-year-old Skittles fan from Canoga Park, Calif., watches the promo, Skittles will live stream his reaction for the public to see. This move follows three straight Super Bowl appearances for the candy product, which is aiming to “reinvent themselves in a completely new way,” said Matt Montei, vice president of fruit confections for Mars Wrigley Confectionery.

6. Pringles

Pringles will make its first Super Bowl appearance with a 30-second ad promoting its new “Flavor Stacking” campaign. Running during the game’s first half, the ad shows ways to combine different chip flavors. According to Pringles, Super Bowl weekend was the fourth-highest weekend of sales for the brand in 2017, even without an ad in the big game.

7. Reese’s

On a related note, Reese’s will once again host the Reese’s Senior Bowl, an annual college football game played in Mobile, Ala., showcasing the nation’s top players and NFL prospects. This year’s game is on Jan. 27, the weekend before the Super Bowl. On Jan. 26, players will participate in a food drive for a Feeding America affiliated food bank, and fans may bring three nonperishable food items to the tailgate party for a Reese’s T-shirt and other giveaway items. Reese’s will also donate a $10,000 check to the food bank during the game.
